The dessert table has quietly become the centrepiece of the modern party. Not a single cake hidden until the end, but a styled spread people gather around, photograph, and pick at all night. Done right, it is the thing guests remember. This is our guide to dessert table catering in Amsterdam: what goes on a great one, how it works, and how to plan yours with us.
We are Ruma (formerly De Beste Lekkernij), a Mediterranean bakery in the Nine Streets, and the bakery behind the trilece that has pulled over 600 million views. A dessert table built around that is a genuine talking point. Here is how we approach it.
What makes a great dessert table
Three things. A hero, the showpiece everyone photographs, usually our trilece. Variety, a mix of textures and flavours so there is something for everyone, from cold and creamy to crisp and nutty. And abundance done well, a table that looks generous and considered rather than thrown together. The best dessert tables feel like a curated spread, not a pile of boxes.
What we bring to the table
The viral trilece
The natural centrepiece. Soft, cold, caramel-topped three-milk cake in rotating flavours like classic, pistachio, raspberry and Lotus. It photographs beautifully and tastes even better, which is exactly what you want guests saying. New to it? See what trilece is.
Tres leches and cakes
Alongside trilece, our tres leches gives you another soaked-sponge option with cream and fruit. Together they anchor the soft, cold end of the table. Browse the range in our best cakes in Amsterdam guide.
Baklava and Turkish sweets
For crisp and honeyed contrast, trays of pistachio baklava and boxes of lokum (Turkish delight). They hold up well on a table and travel beautifully.
Cannoli
Crisp shells filled to order, including our Dubai-style pistachio, limoncello, hazelnut and salted caramel. Small, varied and easy to grab, perfect for grazing.
Savoury, if you want it
We are a full bakery, so we can balance the sweet with simit sandwiches and savoury pastries for a spread that works across a whole event, not just dessert.

Great for every kind of event

A few planning tips
- Enquire early for busy dates, especially weekends and the festive season.
- Plan a mix of textures, soft, crisp, nutty, fruity, so the table has range.
- Tell us about allergies and dietary needs up front so we can plan around them.
- Think about height and colour for the styling, a good table works visually as well as on the plate.
How many desserts per guest?
The question we are asked most. As a rough rule, plan for three to four individual pieces per guest across the whole table, more if dessert is the main event rather than a follow-on from a meal. Variety matters as much as quantity: a guest is happier with one trilece, one piece of baklava and a cannoli than with three of the same thing. We size every table to your final guest count and tell you honestly when you have ordered enough, because a table that looks abundant but does not leave mountains of waste is the goal. Share your numbers when you enquire and we will do the maths with you.
Styling a dessert table
A great table works visually before anyone takes a bite. The basics: vary the height with stands and tiers so it is not all flat, group like with like, and let one hero, usually the trilece, anchor the centre. Leave a little breathing space rather than cramming every inch. Colour helps too, which is where rotating trilece flavours and green pistachio cannoli earn their place. We can advise on presentation to suit your venue and theme, whether that is clean and minimal or generous and festive. The aim is a table guests photograph before they touch.
Dessert tables for every occasion
The format flexes to the event. For birthdays, a playful, colourful spread with a candle moment. For engagements and showers, something elegant and photogenic. For office parties, an easy grazing table people can dip into between conversations. For cultural celebrations like Eid, a Mediterranean spread of baklava, lokum and milk cakes, which we cover in our Eid and Ramadan desserts guide. Whatever the occasion, the principle is the same: a hero, real variety, and enough abundance to feel generous. Tell us the event and we will shape the table around it.
